State Government Tamil film awards were presented to the actors and actresses of Tamil cinema on Tuesday for the year 2005 and 2006. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi gave away the awards for the best actors. The actors were presented with gold medallion and certificate. Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay was honored with the best actor award 2005 for his performance in the film "Thiruppachi".
