Early Life:

Born on 22 June 1974, Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar was born to S.A. Chandrasekhar and Shoba Chandrasekhar; he had a family with a strong footing in the industry. His father was a renowned director and mother was a playback singer. His sister expired when she was just two years old. He was a student of Visual communication at Loyola College where he rubbed shoulders with some of the other famous actors such as Surya Sivakumar, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja, Jeevan and Vishnuvardhan. Later on, Vijay dropped out of college to pursue acting as a career.

First Break:
Vijay began his career at an early age as a child artist and had also been a part of many stage plays. He played many minor roles in different languages for almost five years! His first successful film was Poove Unakkaga ehich shot him to stardom! After that, there has been no looking back and he has acted in over 40 films with majority of them in Tamil. He is fondly known as Ilayathalapathy.

Vijay plays the main roles in many medium budget ranging from romantic comedies to drama and action thrillers. His films are usually runaway hits and some of his famous films are Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Kushi, Ghilli, Pokkiri, Kuruvi, Sachein, Sivakasi, Sukran, Thirupachi, Madhurey, Udhaya, Thirumailai and Vaseegara.

Vijay is also into playback singing and has sung for many movies such as Sachein, Bagavathi, Thamizhan, Badri and many more.

Vijay is happily married to Sangeetha and the couple has two children- Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.

Accolades:
Vijay has bagged many awards for his performance in many films. He bagged the award for Tamil Nadu’s best actor award for Kadhalukku Mariyadhai in 1997, State’s Kalaimamani award in 1998, Dinakaran best actor award for Ghilli in 2004, Film Today and Madras Corporate Club Best actor in 2005 for Ghilli and also received the M.G.R.Award in 2000!
