Vijay and his wife Sangeetha and and his parents (S.A. Chandrasekar and Shoba) joined a massive crowd of fans at Chepauk to show their solidarity with Sri Lankan Tamils and also to protest against the ongoing Lankan civil war. You may remember that Vijay’s fans had decided to hold a protest of their own on behalf of their matinee idol. Also, upon Vijay’s request, they sent thousands of telegrams to the Indian Prime Minister urging him to pressurize the Sri Lankan government to find an amicable solution to the crisis. Overwhelmed by all this, the star declared that he would also join them in their hunger strike on November 16th.
Not just in Chennai, hunger strikes were also held by Vijay’s fan club members throughout Tamil Nadu.
Vijay arrived at about 10:00 a.m. with his wife and parents and joined his fans in the hunger strike. Directors Perarasu and Selvabharathy, and actors Mansoor Ali Khan, Jayam Ravi, Vikranth and Sriman and were also present at the venue. They all appreciated Vijay and his fans for their support for Tamils. It was a silent protest with no ferocious or instigating speeches by the fans or the actors.
Vijay thanked all his fans for their support and appreciated their care for their fellow human beings. He added that he is very lucky and happy to have fans who are so humane. Vijay also surprised everyone by speaking a few lines in Sinhalese.
